Alessandro Michele

Person Creative Direction Fashion

Alessandro Michele is a Roman designer who served as creative director of Gucci from 2015 to 2022, transforming the house from a brand in commercial decline into one of the most culturally dominant names in luxury fashion. Known for his maximalist, gender-fluid aesthetic that drew from Renaissance painting, vintage cinema, and post-punk London street style, Michele reinvented Gucci’s visual language entirely — introducing co-ed collections, reviving the double-G logo, and staging theatrical shows in locations from the Roman Colosseum to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. He joined Gucci in 2002 under Tom Ford, became associate creative director to Frida Giannini in 2011, and departed in November 2022 after an eight-year tenure that saw revenues approach €10 billion. In March 2024 he was appointed creative director of Valentino, succeeding Pierpaolo Piccioli after his 25-year run.
